USU Newspaper
I wrote this article for the Utah Statesman when I was a student. I interviewed Sarah Gailey before her lecture, gathering background information in order to get a better understanding of her position and professional history. The lecture was roughly 45 minutes, and I interviewed student attendees after to receive their input.
This article highlights my ability to compile information together and deliver an engaging and informative article with a quick turnaround.
Project Proposal
For this deliverable a team and I worked to create multiple documents for the SAAVI office at USU. We worked with the SAAVI office to create marketing materials for the Start by Believing Day on campus, which focused on raising awareness for sexual assault. Document design was heavily included in each of these materials, and it was important for our team to create visually pleasing documents that conveyed information effectively. We also created personas for this project to provide more detailed user types. My work focused primarily on poster design and persona profiles.
This project showcases my skills with InDesign and Photoshop, as well as my ability to work individually and with a group simultaneously.
Editing
Comprehensive Edit and Redesign
On this comprehensive editing project, I worked with a team and the USU custodial office to edit and redesign daily task assignments for their employees.
The original documents were inconsistent and confusing for the users, and our redesign’s main focus was to create documents that were clear and easy to understand. We created a hierarchy within the document to improve readability and separated sections to provide accurate information in the right area.
Copyediting was also a large focus to ensure that everything was phrased correctly and could be comprehended by the user. We also made a suggestion to the supervisor to incorporate a map along with the documents to further heighten their usability.
Design
WEAU Young Professional Schedule
I created this schedule after meeting with the Vice President of the Young Professionals Group for the Water Environment Association of Utah. She asked me to create a flyer for the Young Professionals group activities for their annual conference. This document had a significant amount of text, and it went through multiple drafts in order to finalize content and ensure details were included.
This document was created in InDesign, and I also closely collaborated with the Young Professional Vice President to create a visually appealing document that included all pertinent information.
Poster Design
This poster was created to promote a new program at USU. I created this poster after meeting with the program supervisor and coordinator. They explained what information they wanted to be included in the poster design, and the color scheme they wanted me to follow. They gave me a lot of creative liberty that I was able to express through the document design of this poster. This document had to provide a clear idea of what the program included and be directed toward the right audience.
This was the first time I had worked with InDesign, and where I began to develop my skills in document design. It also gave me the opportunity to work with a client and follow instructions they gave me while also implementing my own ideas.
Wix Video Instruction
I created this instructional video for a Professional Writing Technologies course at Utah State University. This video was created to provide brief instructions for an online web design program. I used a free version of Camtasia to create this video. This project illustrates my skills concerning video creation and production, including web design, timing, video editing, and scriptwriting.

I included closed captions in this project to provide additional accessibility options, and also wrote the script to be understandable for a wide range of audiences. I also spoke slowly and consistently to make it easier for viewers to comprehend the information.
